Phone Calls

Gone are the days when we use to wait for a fone call at neighbour's house. I still remember good old days when my mother use to take me ( i was bout 9 yrs.) to vimla aunty's place ( our neighbour's in ajmer) to attend a phone call by my dad, who was than posted in Jammu.

My father like most of govenment officers believes in doing things economically and saving cost. Every Friday @ 4pm, he use to give a missed call at vimla aunty's only landline phone in colony and aunty in consequence use to shout frm her bedroom ( houses were very close to each other) - "sonu ! papa ka phone aa raha hai "..... And i with mom use to walk on a higher pace than normal, on every friday to attend those calls which rings again @ 4.10 pm............
We have moved from Trunk calls to Telephone connections to mobile phone to blackberry to IPhones to Gtalk to Skype and the list is long.........

Now i also keep on hold the phone calls and call my mom ( who will come after doing all small things she can on way to my room ) of my bua who stays in US . The other day i spoke to my frends who are bangalored and we even discuss minute things like - " in which room m sitting" ........ The product popularly known as GTalk gives facilitates you this........Life has changed now.......!!

The technology these days is riding fast than our imaginations.......... With all this coming to our way with this speed , i see all blackberry's, skype's and gtalk's of the world becoming history in the world of electronics and communications in near future. The probable replacement to current technology could be a chip fixed in our body and which has a direct connection to our thoughts through nerves. and two people communicating to each other without talking but through thoughts handled by these chips.

But is it a long way to go..........???? No one but I guess bill gates or better, Steve jobs knows this..........

Caaaaaaaaaa........ ;)

Ethics, Gandhiji and corporates......

Will it affect there Long-Term memory?

He has spelled the magic again….

He is back, this time not with "Jadoo ki Jhappi" but with "Gandhigiri". Munna Bhai bole to kamal kar diya. Apun ko sab yaad aa gaya.

When I was a child, my grandfather used to teach me about the achievements of the great man "the bapu of India", Mr. Mohan Das Karam Chand Gandhi.
The teachings were supposedly in my Long-Term memory.
The movie by .….has retrieved all my information related to bapu of India. Fortunately, the information in my Long-Term Memory was not lost but faded otherwise I would have been in the same league with "them".
As you will read the article, you will soon come to know that whom am I referring to as “them".

We see Gandhi Ji’s images in Government Offices, Schools or at Museums but never in Corporate Offices.

Why is this happening?
Is it because we don’t teach Gandhism in our management schools or is it because we don’t follow ethics in our Businesses.

Most of us would agree that Gandhi Ji is synonym to truth, honesty and ethics.
We have Gandhi ji’s image printed on most important element of every business, "Indian currency notes".
But even in Government offices, people are not concerned about the photo that is framed in glass with dust on it.

We pay homage to him on 2nd October, but why we forget him on rest 364 days of a year??
Well of course we know the reason of holiday on 2nd October every year, on the day we remember him, but only while asking our colleagues that-why the banks are closed tomorrow?

This might look similar to everyday issue in editorial of any English daily but is it really so? No it is not.

Have you seen image of Bapu in any corporate office.
I know majority of you will answer "No". Can I ask why? The bigger pie will say " Don’t Know why".

We have forgotten him because our Long-Term memory doesn’t recall Bapu. Why? The principle of memory applies here, which says, we tend forget things that we don’t see or recall for long time. Thanks to Indian government which has taken careby printing his image on “currency notes”, that we don’t forget Gandhiji.

Ethics are important in every business. This might act little selfish for Corporates but sticking images of great man will reflect ethics and honesty followed by their business. Hey! Corporates, you might opt for this as a part of your strategy for well being and growth of your businesses.

Not only this but he also teaches us to be calm and cool in tensed situations (because there is no "circuit- played by Arshad Warsi" in our lives to tell us "tension mat le yaar").

Lage raho Munna bhai is a successful attempt by *................. to recall all data about him stored in our Long-Term Memory. "Bole to apne dimag mein chemical locha ho rahela re".

Other directors should take some learning from him and should make movies on great leaders such as, Pandit Jawar lal Nehru, Netaji SubhashChandra Bose........... the list is endless.

Hats off ! to you Mr *...................

* I am referring to Director of the movie - Rajkumar Hirani .

The Secret !

Is it really true that we can create our own universe. Is it true that we choose our own destiny.
Everything was a question mark for me before reading this ( and watching this - i got the video CD as well). I am not talking about any movie here but a book- The Secret. The book is written by Rhonda Byrne. I heard a lot bout this book but never took a pain to buy and read it until one of m y client gifted me this. Law of Attraction is what the book emphasizes on. f i have to explain it in 2 sentences- We can do wotevr' we want. We can achieve wotevr' we can. That is all the book talks about. Well i do not knw hw true it is....but m convinced that yes if the path taken can really do wonders can bring phenomenal changes in one's life. I do not get easily convinced but one of the forces behind convincing me was the client of mine ( Mr. Kamlesh Vyas) who gifted me this book and gave me an example how it really worked for him and his company.....

I am trying to implement this in my life. Hope u guys can also, if not implement but read it.........

The MBA syndrome

The MBA syndrome

Last week I attended a HR conference in Gurgaon at a 5-star hotel , Hotel Leela-Kempinski ( also, my previous employer ;) ). Well to my much surprise, this is the first 5-Star hotel which I came across where I had to pay Rs.100 for valet parking. This hotel is attached to Ambience Mall. But I didn’t understand why they charge for parking, does the hotel management thinks that , if they keep parking free of cost, people will park in the hotel and go for shopping ?? Do we Indians think so economically ??
I entered the hotel. The conference was organized by Dun & Bradstreet along with other big sponsors. The topic was inspired from very common words used these days ‘Downturn’ and ‘Recession’. The Topic- HR Challenges in the Downturn. The event was attended by good no. of people from HR fraternity. The conference started with speeches by well known people from HR. After the speech the question and answers round started, which made a huge difference to the perception of thinking it as a intellectual conference.

The first question came from the audience on How to retain MBAs ? followed by -Are MBAs fit for Managerial jobs ? and so on…… Are we doing right by paying more to IIM passed students?? ………. I think by now you should have noticed that their was no question on Downturn / Recession and HR challenges in these turbulent times. Shall we assume that intellectual level of understanding good speeches and talks not present Gurgaon / India or HR fraternity etc etc. ?? or Are MBAs such a hot topic these days that they can it can dilute the whole agenda of the conferences ?? I think Yes, this makes a little sense for me.
In my discussions with various HR guys present their, many of shared their problem with retaining MBAs and making them happy , satisfying their expectations which are set high by MBA colleges. The training head of a newly launched Telecom network provider company with good presence in South India recently launched North India made a very effective statement and I quote - “ I think expectations are set very high by the MBA colleges and when fresh grads reach companies their plans are completely shattered.” Unquote. I think there is need to train these fresh grads by recently passed out students who can actually tell what is life after MBA for next 3-4 years. But what is currently happening is that these students are being teached by CEO/ COO/ Departmental heads.

Well there are so many conclusions that one can take out of this whole episode. But what I realized is that these conferences are not the pure intellectual discussion conference rather it’s a Networking Conference.
